A city in Alberta is getting a massive new sports dome, with Grande Prairie breaking ground on a $16.9-million facility.
The Multisport Dome, located in the City’s Trader Ridge area, will offer year-round access to a full-size FIFA-regulation field that can be reconfigured for soccer, football, rugby, and track and field.
The City of Grande Prairie says the facility is intended to serve athletes of all ages, families, and local organizations, creating a central hub for training, competition, and community activity.
“The Multisport Dome is more than a place to play. It’s a year-round hub for activity, a driver of sport tourism, and a key investment in our city’s future,” said Grande Prairie mayor Jackie Clayton in a news release.
“It shows our commitment to quality of life and cements Grande Prairie’s role as a leader in sport tourism and regional development.”

The adjacent County of Grande Prairie will contribute up to $2.8 million toward construction. Both municipalities describe the project as part of a “shared commitment to expanding recreation opportunities and attracting more competitions to the region.”
Atkinson Construction has been hired to build the facility, which the City says was designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind.
Construction is scheduled to start in September 2025, with completion expected by July 2026.
