
British actor Alan Rickman, known by many in his role as Professor Snape in Harry Potter, Hans Gruber in Die Hard, and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, has died at the age of 69.
The London native was suffering from cancer and succumbed to the illness, his family said in a statement.
Rickman starred in dozens of films, TV shows, and theatre productions, and was nominated for and won many awards, including a BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, Emmy Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award.
