Let the fun begin. There are some more fabulous films coming to the theatres this month. As always we’re on hand to help you decide what’s worth watching with a rundown of 6 films to look forward to in November.
It’s been rather weird times in the movie business. There are so many great films that are currently playing in theatres that deserve to be seen on a large screen. But for whatever reason it has been brutally slow at the box office.
However, in November there are some big time films that are about to drop. Here are my six picks that might be worthwhile checking out. I also added a few honorable mentions.
Spectre

Official Synopsis: A cryptic message from James Bond’s (Daniel Craig) past prompts him to set out to uncover a sinister criminal organization called SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion).
While M (Ralph Fiennes) battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

Why you should check it out: I think it’s pretty clear that this will be one of the top grossing films of 2015. It’s already shattered some records overseas and will be coming here to North America on Friday, November 6. 007 is a worldwide cinema staple and this could unfortunately be the last time we see Daniel Craig taking on the role of famous British spy. Since 2006 Craig has been one of the best Bonds to grace the big screen. If this is truly his last ride in the Aston Martin, expect him to go out with a bang.
This latest Bond adventure is directed by Sam Mendes who also directed Skyfall. Besides Daniel Craig, there is a very solid cast returning in Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, and Ralph Fiennes to name a few. You should also be tickled pink to know that Christoph Waltz also stars as the evil baddie Franz Oberhauser. Overall this should be a fun time and another great addition to the Bond Universe.

Spotlight

Official Synopsis: When newly-hired senior editor Marty Baron (Liev Schreiber) at the Boston Globe insists that the members of “Spotlight” — a four-person investigative team led by editor Walter Robinson (Michael Keaton) — do an investigation into the child abuse perpetrated by Catholic Church clergy, he’s initially met with resistance.
He doesn’t back down and once the reporters start digging, they’re shocked when they uncover a massive conspiracy to cover up years of child abuse, involving hundreds of children in the Boston area, perpetrated by at least 87 pedophile priests.

Why you should check it out: Anytime you have the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Liev Shreiber, Rachel McAdams and Billy Crudup sharing the screen at the same time, you have yourself an all-star cast that should be able to tell a fantastic story. Unfortunately the subject matter of this particular true story isn’t that fantastic. It’s chilling and disgusting, but it’s based on the real life investigation that broke down the walls of child abuse in the Catholic Church. Once again we have another great film that will probably end up on a lot of critics top 10 lists at the end of the year, but probably won;t bust blocks at the box office. Nevertheless you should definitely put this one on your list.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part Two

Official Synopsis: The rebels are close to winning the war. Peeta has been freed, but he’s been brainwashed by the Capitol into believing Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is a mutt, whom he must kill. This puts Katniss in danger and the two are separated as the rebels try to take over the Capitol.
President Coin (Julianne Moore) and most of the surviving tributes, with the exception of Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), decide collectively to let the Capitol have a taste of their own medicine by holding a final Hunger Games in which the children of Capitol leaders will be the tributes.
Katniss still wants the right to personally kill President Snow (Donald Sutherland) once he is captured, but when the moment comes, she makes a surprising decision, one for which she may pay the ultimate price.

Why you should check it out: Pretty straight forward. Next to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2015. The entire Hunger Games series has been really solid. Mockingjay Part 1 was one of the best films of 2014 and part two should be a great way to close things out. Expect this film to cleanup at the box office worldwide. If you haven’t seen all the Hunger Game films, do yourself a favor and watch them as lead up to the final chapter. Or you could pick up the books and give reading a try.

The Night Before

Official Synopsis: For the past decade, three childhood friends (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie) have been reuniting at Christmas Eve for a night of debauchery. But now that they’re entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end. To make their last night as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Holy Grail of Christmas parties—the Nutcracka Ball.

Why you should check it out: Seth Rogen and some of his friends are back in another stoner flick. This film looks ridiculous, but who doesn’t like a fun and twisted Christmas comedy? This is directed by Jonathan Levine who wrote and directed 50/50, and Warm Bodies. You know what you’re getting in this film when you watch the trailer above.

The Good Dinosaur

Why you should check it out: Because your kids will kill you if you don’t. This has been a pretty good year for Disney/Pixar with Inside Out doing big numbers last spring, and now they have The Good Dinosaur in theatres to finish off the year. Most kids love dinos so you can expect Arlo and friends to do well at the theatre and at the toy store this Holiday Season. This looks like a fantastic family film and the perfect reason to grab the kids and hit the theatre.

The End Of The Tour

Based on Lipsky’s critically acclaimed memoir about this unforgettable encounter, Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace, which was written following Wallace’s suicide in 2008.

Why you should check it out: There has been some good things said about this film and so far critics have loved it. This wasn’t shown in many theatres but now is your chance to check it out on Itunes or other video on demand services. It will be interesting to see Jason Segel in a more dramatic role opposed to his usual comedic shtick. Both Segel and Eisenberg apparently have fantastic chemistry and director James Ponsoldt has been making some very good films over the last couple of years. Give this one a try. It’s a diamond in the rough.
