The 88th Academy Awards ceremony takes place this Sunday bringing together some of the biggest names in the business for a celebration of the year’s best films. Hosted by comedian Chris Rock, this year’s list of nominees include films such as The Revenant, Steve Jobs, The Big Short, and many others.
The Oscars might be taking place in L.A. but that doesn’t mean you can’t be part of the action. So to help you celebrate we put together a rundown of the best Oscar viewing events happening in and around Calgary this weekend:
Theatre Calgary: Night with the Stars
Start your star-filled night with cocktails and bubbles, dressed to the nines, while celebrating film. Watch the live broadcast of the Academy Awards under a canopy of stars. During your time at the gala there will be an exclusive live and silent auction, raffle as well as an Award Prediction Contest. Also enjoy a themed menu for an otherworldly feast.
Night with the Stars raises money to support Theatre Calgary’s productions and outreach programs.

YYCharity presents The First Annual Oscars Party
Celebrate the Academy Awards red carpet style at this fun charity event, where a portion of all proceeds support the Calgary Women’s Emergency Centre, Little Something Beautiful, Little Miss Frosting, Merchants, Blossoms on 9th, and YYCharity .Inc. So, dress up and get ready for the red carpet because it will be a night you won’t soon forget.

A Red Carpet Affair
Celebrate the magic of motion pictures, by dressing up just like they used to for the Academy Awards in the 1950s. Once you have the attire, sip on campaign, watch live entertainment, join in on a silent auction and more, plus watch the live screening of the 88th Academy Awards.
Proceeds from this event go towards enhancing the Calgary International Film Festival, developing the CIFF Youth Film Program, and investing in our local talent.

10th Annual Osctravaganza
Want to travel a bit? Then visit Edmonton’s one and only Oscar Night Fundraiser. Be entertained by the “HEY LADIES” theatrical group, and the Shadow Theatre gang. Prizes for fashion and Oscar predictions, giveaways, and an auction, will keep you on your toes all night.
Dress up in the most up to date red carpet fashion and strut your stuff at the BLVD Bar & Kitchen nightclub. Do everything and more all while watching the Oscars live, of course.
