Fright night is almost upon us. Yes, Halloween is right around the corner, and whether you’re into masquerade balls or Thriller-themed flash mobs there’s something to suit every taste this October 31.

From fun to frightening, here’s our rundown of some of the most spooktacular events taking place in Calgary this Halloween.


Creepy Creatures Sleepover at the Zoo

  • What: A Halloween-themed sleepover at the Calgary Zoo is sure to delight the kids as they learn about the creepy creatures that keep them up at night. Costumes are welcome and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Where: Calgary Zoo – 1300 Zoo Road NE
  • When: Saturday, October 17 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Virtue and Vice Masquerade 2015 Wings of Hope Gala

  • What: A swanky Halloween-themed gala, the Virtue & Vice Masquerade soiree will help raise money for the Wings of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
  • Where: Hotel Arts Spectrum Ballroom – 119 12 Ave SW
  • When: Friday, October 23 from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

 Thrill The World Calgary

  • What: If you’ve ever wanted to be part of a giant flashmob then this is your chance to shine. Thrill Calgary is a non-profit organization which promotes Calgarians to get up and active.

 Haunted Pumpkin Festival

  • What: An autumn outing to this pumpkin patch is the perfect way to get into the fall season. Enjoy their haunted houses, corn mazes, petting farm, shootin’ gallery and more.

  • When: Every weekend in October; October 3 to November 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Calgary Corn Maze Autumn Pumpkin Festival

  • What: Hosting a wide variety of activities you won’t want to miss out on this fun pumpkin-themed adventure.
  • Where: Calgary Corn Maze – 284022 Township Road 224, Rockyview
  • When: Now through to Sunday, October 25, every weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Cost: $14 for adults, and free for children aged two and under

 Calgary Ghost Tours

  • What: Halloween is the perfect time to enjoy the creepy tales served up on this Calgary ghost tour.
  • Where: Various
  • When: Every Friday and Saturday in October; Saturday, October 31 at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Cost: $15 for adults, $10 for children aged six to 12


Cobb’s Corn Maze and Family Fun Park – Freaky Fridays & Flashlight Nights

  • What: Ever wanted to go to a corn maze when its dark outside? Well, now’s your chance thanks to the Freaky Fridays & Flashlight Nights currently taking place at Cobb’s Corn Maze.
  • Where: Cobb’s Corn Maze and Family Fun Park – 1500 84 St NE, Calgary
  • When: Fridays in October from 5 to 9 p.m.

  • What: ScreamFest is one of Canada’s largest and scariest Halloween events. Experience eight haunted houses, carnival games and more.

Harvest Pumpkin Hunts at Butterfield Acres Farm

  • What: Perfect for the eight and under crowd; kids can enjoy wagon rides, animals, and pumpkin decorating at this Halloween-themed harvest event.

The Crucible

  • What: A play based on the Salem witch trials about a lurking evil in the Salem Massachusetts community.

Grim Manor

  • What: Grim Manor, Calgary’s newest Halloween attraction, is a haunted house with a backstory that will leave you with goosebumps.

 Halloween at The Fairmont Banff Springs

  • What: Join the historic hotel for an exclusive heritage ghost tour of the famous Fairmont Banff Springs.
  • When: Friday, October 23 to Friday, October 30

Ghouls’ Night Out

  • What: Perfect for families with children aged three to nine, Ghouls’ Night Out at Heritage Park provides all the quintessential Halloween attractions including decorations, storytelling, crafts, and an assortment of Halloween characters.

The Calgary Zombie Evasion (5K)

  • What: If running from Zombies or sounds like your idea of fun then you’ll want to check out this chip-timed Calgary Zombie Evasion.
  • Where: North Glenmore Park – 66 ave SW and 37 st SW
  • When: Saturday, October 24 at 1 p.m.
  • Cost: $65 until October 21

Monster Mash-Up at TELUS Spark

  • What: Halloween gets a scientific flare at the the Monster Mash-Up weekend event taking place at the TELUS Spark Science Centre. Activities include science demonstrations, pumpkin decorating, dancing, crafts and more.
  • Where: TELUS Spark Science Centre – 220 St. George’s Drive NE
  • When: Saturday, October 24; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 25; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Boo-tanical Bash

  • What: If you can make a trip to Edmonton they are holding a family-friendly Halloween Party at their botanical gardens where you can create creepy crafts, participate in face painting and join in other activities.
  • Where: Muttart Conservatory – 9626,  96A St NW
  • When: Sunday, October 25 from 12 to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $12.25 for adults, $ 10.50 for youth, and $6.50 for children

Halloween Howl

  • What: Nothing is better than a fun walk or run for a good cause. The Halloween Howl is asking everyone to join in and have fun at this family-friendly event.
  • Where: Eu Claire Market – 200 Barclay Parade SW
  • When: Sunday, October 25; check-in 9am, begins 10:30 a.m.
  • Cost: Starts at $40 (adult) and $20 (youth)

The Ghosts of Fish Creek Provincial Park

  • What: Learn about the ghosts that are said to have haunted the area. The event is great for all ages, but keep in mind that it may scare younger children.

Halloween Candy Pairing: Grown Up Loot Bag Fun

  • What: Spend an evening with the team at Willow Park Wines and Spirits having some fun pairing traditional Halloween candies with beers, wines and spirits.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

  • What: An interactive film about the misadventures of Brad Majors and Janet Weiss when they come across a mansion during a rainy night.

 6 Annual Cemetery of Sound with Steve Aoki & Adventure Club

  • What: During the two-day event there will be six different DJs each day putting on a chilling beat dropping show.

Haunted Calgary’s The Coven

  • What: Visit this attraction set in Salem Massachusetts in 1692, where you can choose to have live actors (high scare) or no actors (low scare).

Act 1, Murder 2: Night of the Living Dead

  • What: This dinner theatre play is full of Halloween-themed entertainment.

Disney in concert Calgary: The Nightmare Before Christmas

  • What: The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, along with conductor Roberto Minczuk will be performing the beloved score from The Nightmare Before Christmas, composed by legendary Hollywood composer Danny Elfman.
