World's Best Food Truck Tour - Vancouver Foodie Tours

Dec 19 2017, 6:16 pm

Earlier this week, Vancity Buzz was invited downtown to try a food truck tour hosted by Vancouver Foodie Tours. Promoted as a two hour tour, our small group of six was taken to four popular food trucks around the downtown core.

Our first stop was at a food truck that requires no introduction: Japadog. Arguably the most well-known food mobile in the city, our signature Japadogs were served piping hot and slathered in teriyaki sauce, mayo and topped with fresh seaweed. For locals and tourists alike, this delicious kurobuta pork dog was a great way to kick off the tour.

After a short walk, we arrived at the second food truck of our tour EAT! Chicken Wraps. Although not as well-known as Japadog, EAT!’s hoisin chicken wrap is one of the tastiest food truck offerings in Vancouver. Wrapped loosely in a crispy Chinese pancake, hungry patrons will enjoy tender cuts of five spiced chicken, asian salad, pickled radish and green onion lightly drizzled in hoisin sauce.

Our third stop of the tour was at Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck. Beloved the city over for their fresh, home-style grilled cheese sandwiches and hearty soups, our group enjoyed the Monday meatloaf special along with a steaming cup of tomato soup. On a cold, rainy Vancouver day, there are few mobile offerings that deliver this level of comfort and warmth.

The fourth and final stop of our tour was at Tacofino for delicious fish tacos and chocolate diablo cookies. Repeatedly recognized as one of the best food trucks in the city, our fish tacos were a delicious combination of crispy ling cod, cabbage, mayo and salsa fresca. To end the entire tour, we were each given a fresh chocolate diablo cookie to take away.

Thoughts: Taking two hours to visit four food trucks may seem excessive but the time really does go by quickly. In addition to the delicious food offerings, the real strength of this social dining experience is the VFT host. Knowledgeable, funny and practically bursting with interesting stories, every member of the tour was kept engaged and attentive for the entire length of the tour. Even as a local Vancouverite, I learned quite a few new things about the city and how our world class food truck culture came to be. Whether you are visiting Vancouver for the first time or have lived here your entire life, this tour is easily enjoyable and highly recommended.
