The design for 2025 Orange Shirt Day was done by Sloane Cameron, a Grade 6 student from Innisfail, Alta.
Her design showcases a tree, a heart, and children. The tree represents nature, and the heart symbolizes that every child matters and is equally important. The children in the design are holding feathers as an Indigenous representation; however, she drew them without faces so that they have no expression and can represent any child.

Tuesday, Sept. 30, also marks Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
