WestJet Rewards members will have to spend more in 2027 to reach the airline’s top tiers as the airline raises its qualifying spend thresholds.
The airline announced it will be increasing its tier qualifying spend thresholds starting on Jan. 1, 2027, with the biggest jump coming for Platinum status.
Platinum status is the airline’s highest tier and includes benefits such as unlimited airport lounge access with family privileges, priority boarding and check-in, complimentary upgrades to Premium, and no-fee same-day flight changes.
In 2027, members will need $15,000 in qualifying spend to reach Platinum status, up 50 per cent from $10,00 in 2026.
Platinum isn’t the only tier being affected; Silver status will require $5,000 in qualifying spend, up from $4,000, while Gold will increase from $6,000 to $8,000.

Members who meet the 2026 qualifying requirements by Dec. 31, 2026 will receive the benefits of their earned tier throughout 2027. Spend earned during 2027 will determine members’ tier status for 2028.
WestJet said the thresholds are periodically reviewed to ensure the airline can consistently deliver the benefits members expect.
“As we see a higher volume of members reaching top-tier status, this impacts our ability to deliver benefits at experience levels our members would expect, especially for priority services and lounge access,” WestJet said in a statement to Daily Hive.
The airline added that when discussing tier thresholds and benefits with members, it consistently hears that they would prefer higher qualifying requirements over having benefits cut.
WestJet is also increasing the maximum number of Status Lifts available in 2027 to 75, up from 50 in 2026.
