As temperatures drop, Canadians are being urged to check their space heaters, as they could be part of a recall due to a potential safety risk.

On Thursday, Health Canada announced that thousands of DREO space heaters are being recalled nationwide as they can overheat and ignite, “posing fire and burn hazards.”

As of Oct. 22, the company said it has already received one reported incident in Canada, but there have been no reports of injury so far. However, in the U.S., the company received 16 incident reports and one reported injury.

As a result, people should immediately stop using the recalled product.

The affected product is the DREO portable oscillating ceramic space heater with model number DR-HSH015. These electric heaters are black and measure approximately 29 cm (11.5 inches) wide by 33 cm (13 inches) tall. They come with a remote control and are branded with “DREO” on the front.

“For your safety, please stop using the heater and register for the recall even if the heater has been working normally and you have never experienced any issues with it,” states the company.

DREO Innovation Inc. said that 36,288 of the affected products were sold in Canada from September 2025 to August 2026. A total of 338,800 affected units were sold in the U.S. The product was manufactured in Vietnam and distributed by Hesung Innovation Corp.

If you have the recalled item, you can contact DREO, as the company is offering consumers a free replacement space heater. Consumers can contact DREO at (833) 820-0887, spaceheater@realtimeresults.net, or by visiting the company’s recall website.

To get a replacement heater, you’ll need to submit a photo of the product to verify that the model is part of the recall. You’ll then receive instructions on the registration process. Once completed, the company will ship your replacement space heater. You can still register for a replacement even if you no longer have the receipt.
