Prime Minister Mark Carney has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s ludicrous decision to sign an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America.”

However, Carney used language that might go over Trump’s head.

In case you missed it, earlier today, Trump followed through on threats he made this week about Lake Ontario.

The official White House X account even shared the news.

The post has been viewed over 10 million times, and there are tens of thousands of reactions.

Carney’s post doesn’t directly attack Trump. Instead, the prime minister pointed to the history, including the fact that Lake Ontario got its name before the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, dating back 400 years.Ā 

He also used a word that, based on other “big words” that the president has had to tackle, Trump might not even understand.

“We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms,” Carney said.Ā 

A hydronym is the proper name for a body of water like a lake, ocean, or river.

Trump has struggled with the English language during many live addresses.

“Canadian women and men also know that things must be called by their name, and this lake is called Lake Ontario ā€“ today and forever,” Carney said.

Even Hillary Clinton chimed in on the “Lake America” conversation.

The prime minister also shared that Lake Ontario means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is great.”
