A lottery winner in Alberta is flexing his dad duties, saying he hopes to pay off his kids’ mortgages thanks to netting a cool $2,500,000.

Allen Briggs of Diamond Valley netted the big lottery win on a Lotto 6/49 ticket in the December 21 draw.

Briggs later told the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) that he’s still having a hard time believing that he won.

“When the clerk first told me I won $250,000, I said, ‘I won’t believe it until I see it [in the bank],’” he laughed while explaining to the WCLC. “When I found out I had actually won $2,500,000, I said the same thing!”

The new winner said he hasn’t made plans for his windfall but has an idea that is sure to make a few people very happy.

“Mostly, I just want like to continue the way it is,” he said. “But I might pay off a couple mortgages… for our kids!”

Briggs purchased his winning ticket from Fas Gas Longview at 123 Kee Drive in Longview. He won Lotto 6/49’s Classic draw by matching the numbers 6, 9, 21, 24, 41, and 48.

The December 21 Classic draw was shared with another ticket purchased somewhere in the
Atlantic provinces.
