Justin Trudeau caught dancing in a Home Hardware in Canada with Katy Perry

Next time you’re at a hardware store shopping for power tools and paint supplies, you could potentially bump into a former Prime Minister and his pop star girlfriend.

This weekend, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry were captured on camera dancing down the aisles of a Home Hardware in Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal.

No, it wasn’t an eager paparazzo or an enthusiastic fan with a fully charged iPhone. It was Trudeau’s own son, Xavier “Xav” Trudeau, who publicly outed him doing the boogie. And the only reason the former PM was dancing in the first place was that his son’s song, “Downtown,” was playing on the radio in the store.

Xav shared the video, which Perry recorded, on Instagram on Aug. 16, showing a relaxed Trudeau letting it rip while holding on to a toilet plunger and other household items. (Stars, they’re just like us!)

Xav, 23, is new to the music scene, having released his first single in 2025; oddly enough, this is the same year that his father started dating Perry, one of the biggest, most successful pop stars in the world.

Whether you find his moves dorky or not doesn’t matter. The two divorced lovebirds have plenty of chemistry; there’s no denying that, and they’re never shy about dancing together on camera.

These days, when celebrities practically have to stay active on TikTok to maintain their notoriety, Justin has popped up in a few of Perry’s social media posts, bouncing along gleefully to her music. So, it only makes sense that he’d let loose for his son, too.

Fans couldn’t get enough of this candid, innocent and joyful moment, dropping comments like “This is so cute omg” and “everyone deserves to be happy” on Xav’s post.

After a massive world tour earlier this year, Perry recently put out new music via Universal Music Canada. So, if a new album is in the works, could a collab with Xav make the shortlist? Judging by the positive media reaction, we certainly hope so.
