Step up your 'gram game with these 8 Instagram spots in Hong Kong

Jul 25 2018, 2:25 am

If you didn’t post it on social media, did it even really happen?

Hong Kong has some of the most recognizable Instagram shots in the world, thanks to its old-meets-new, bougie-meets-gritty aesthetic — not to mention the towering skyscrapers of all colours of the rainbow.

You will get a taste of the city skyline as soon as you’re descending into the city — which we recommend doing via a Hong Kong Airlines flight, now flying daily direct between YVR-HKG, and making you feel like a VIP the whole way. Your Insta spam starts from the sky, people. Do it right.

From its epic cityscape to its chaotic streets, we’re taking you through some of the best places to take photos in Hong Kong.

Ozone Bar

Let’s be real, every view of Hong Kong’s skyline is going to be an unreal shot. There are countless vantage points to choose from, but might we suggest going up to the top? Ozone Bar in the Ritz-Carlton offers stunning panoramic views of Hong Kong from 118 floors up — if you can handle the height!

Streets of Sham Shui Po

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the Fok Wa and Pei Ho Street markets, these streets offer a perfect backdrop that shows the beautiful chaos of real Hong Kong. If the setting was good enough for Transformers: Age of Extinction, it’s good enough for your Insta!

Tai O

A post shared by Léa Sun (@leasunn) on

This picturesque fishing village complete with stilted houses and a mountain backdrop is the dose of authenticity and tranquility your ‘gram so desperately needs. Get your shot from the bridge looking onto the waterway, or hop on a ferry and snap a selfie amidst the houses.

Instagram Pier

The views from this cargo dock have taken social media by storm, so much so that the area has been officially dubbed “Instagram Pier.” We weren’t about to include a roundup of top Instagram spots without including Instagram pier, now, were we?!

The sweeping views of Victoria Harbour and the city skyline make for prime selfie-taking territory. There’s even an Insta account dedicated to the photo opp.

Wai Yip Street pedestrian bridge

Insert caption about “life’s a journey,” “light at the end of the tunnel,” going the distance, time travel, being moody, etc. When the light hits just right, the structure of this part of Chi Ming Bridge will create a pinhole effect to make the perfect mood lighting for your shot. This is your chance to stroll pensively through a tunnel in Hong Kong while getting a stranger, friend, or self-timer to take your pic.

Graham Street murals

Located smack dab in the middle of Central, you will notice a slew of Instagrammers “candidly” posing for their gram along the colourful street art on Graham Street. This is the hipster backdrop you’ve been waiting for. Get in there.

Jockey Club Innovation Tower

You can’t call yourself a true Instagrammer without featuring a mysterious white staircase to the heavens on your feed. The crisp, futuristic vibes at the Innovation Tower are the perfect backdrop to show off your #ootd.

Victoria Peak

This vantage point offers a backstage view of the downtown skyline and believe us, it is epic. Go up the Victoria Peak tram just before dusk to catch a shot of the city lights twinkling beneath you, but be prepared to fend off the masses of tourists doing the same thing. It’s all for the ‘gram, people.

We know you’re itching to start snappin’, so find your flight from Hong Kong Airlines and book that flight – and let the wanderlust ensue!
