Vancouver Island M.o.M. gets raided by police

Police raided a warehouse in Saanich last week in connection with a large-scale cannabis edibles manufacturer.

The target of the raid is largely speculated to have been Mota Cannabis Products, a BC-based company that supplies cannabis-infused products to dispensaries across Canada. Mota also offers a “mail-order-marijuana” service and is often referenced in the subreddit /r/CanadianMOMs.

Daily Hive reached out to Mota for a comment but has not heard back. So far Mota has remained silent on the issue, but their website is currently down.

They claim to be renovating their website and facilities with a plan to resume operations when they are ready.

Saanich Police remained silent on the issue this past week, so as not to compromise the ongoing investigation.

In a press release issued today, Saanich Police confirmed the investigation began on April 24 at a facility in the 4200 block of Glanford Avenue and discovered “an industrial kitchen-style facility was located along with, what was believed to be, cannabis in various forms.

“A judicial authorization to search the premise was sought and granted. A number of items from within the business premise were seized including edible cannabis products. Island Health has disposed of food products in compliance with the Public Health Act and Food Premises Regulation.

“The business was not operating under a business licence and it was not being regulated by any health authority,” said Sgt. Jereme Leslie in the release. “In these types of situations, there is always a concern for people’s health. In addition to these concerns, the products seized are illegal.”

Edibles are illegal in Canada, with an exception for medicinal cannabis patients who have access to oil-based infusions. Government officials are speculating that it will be at least a year’s wait after legalization is in effect for edibles to be available on the legal market.

Saanich Police have not pressed charges at this time.
