New Westminster Mayor Jonathan Cote says fire crews are receiving assistance from departments across Metro Vancouver. “The fire is being contained to the old part of the pier, but it is likely the old pier of the park will be completely destroyed,” he stated on Twitter.
He adds that at this time, the cause of the blaze is unknown.

New Westminster Police say Front Street is closed from East Columbia to Stewardson Way and there is no access to the Front Street parkade. The public is advised to avoid the area.

Emergency crews are on scene battling a fire at New Westminster’s Pier Park.
Witness Utah Cowx shared footage of the blaze online. He told Daily Hive the footage was taken from his 14th-floor condo.

“Noticed the fire almost exactly one hour ago, looked fairly small and grew very quickly. People were moved off the pier about 25 minutes after it started and the entire area is engulfed,” he said.

Deputy Chief Tyler Moore with Vancouver Fire Department said his crews are on the way to assist with the dock fire.

The fire has also suspended Skytrain service between Columbia and Scott Road stations.
TransLink says the Expo Line is running between Waterfront and Production Way Station and a bus bridge is operating between Scott Road Station to Columba Station.
