With benefits set to go out this week, some Canadians will soon see their monthly payments deposited into their accounts.

This week’s benefits will go out on different days —  the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) will be paid on Thursday, Sept. 17, while the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) will go out on Friday, Sept. 18.

Canadians who don’t currently receive these benefits can check their eligibility, so read on to find out the requirements, how much you could receive, and how to apply.

Payment date: Thursday, Sept. 17

The government started accepting applications for the CDB last year. This benefit provides financial assistance to Canadians aged 18 to 64 who live with a disability.

If you qualify, payments will start going out the month after your application is approved. Canadians who qualify would have received letters from Service Canada inviting them to submit a Canada Disability Benefit application. The letter includes a unique six-digit code with instructions on how to apply.

However, even if you didn’t get a letter, you can still apply for the benefit if you have a spouse or common-law partner. Both of you must have filed your 2025 federal income tax returns.

To be eligible, you must be one of the following:

  • A Canadian citizen
  • A permanent resident
  • A temporary resident who has lived in Canada throughout the previous 18 months
  • A protected person
  • An individual registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act
  • You can also apply if you’re a Canadian resident between the ages of 18 and 64 who has already been approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
  • How much you get depends on several factors based on your family’s net income.

From July 2026 to June 2027, the maximum monthly benefit you could receive is $204.20. The amount is based on your adjusted family net income from your 2025 federal income tax return.

You may get back payments for up to 24 months from when the government receives your application. However, it doesn’t apply to any previous months of eligibility before June 2025.

Visit the CDB website for more information.

In addition, Canadians who receive CDB payments could be eligible to receive a one-time $150 payment to cover the cost of obtaining a medical certificate required for a Disability Tax Credit (DTC).

Payment date: Sept. 18

The CCB is a tax-free monthly payment for eligible families to help with the cost of raising kids under the age of 18.

The amount you receive depends on your family’s net income, the number of children in your care, and the age of your children.

Annual maximum payments for each child under six increased from $7,997 to $8,157. For children aged six to 17, annual maximum payments went up from $6,748 to $6,883 per child.

The base benefit for a child under the age of six is $679.75 per month, while children aged six to 17 will receive $573.58 per month.

In addition, you could get up to$290 per month for each child who’s eligible for the Child Disability Benefit, a tax-free monthly payment for families who care for children under the age of 18 with a “severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions.”
