If you’re looking for somewhere pretty to visit, a Canadian town was just tapped as one of the most beautiful in the world.

British travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler just released its roundup of the 20 most beautiful towns on the planet, and one spot in Canada made the cut.

Towns in Alberta like Banff and Jasper or in British Columbia like Whistler and Tofino may come to mind when the most beautiful are being discussed; however, a spot on the East Coast caught the eye of the publication.

The historic and colorful fishing town of Lunenburg, N.S., was named to the list, thanks to its charm, vibrancy, and storied past.

It’s even a UNESCO-listed Old Town, which was awarded back in 1995 thanks to being the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America.

Established in 1753, it has retained its original layout and overall appearance, based on a rectangular grid pattern drawn up in the home country. The inhabitants have managed to safeguard the city’s identity throughout the centuries by preserving the wooden architecture of the houses, some of which date from the 18th century.

Places as diverse and unique as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, the Taj Mahal in India, the Grand Canyon in the U.S., or the Acropolis in Greece are examples of the over 1,000 natural and cultural places inscribed on the World Heritage List to date. For one to be in Nova Scotia, that’s pretty neat.

“We can’t imagine a lovelier spot to dive into maritime history and fill up on lobster rolls,” Conde Nast Traveler touted.

While in town, you can also step aboard the iconic schooner Bluenose II, or visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic.
