Over 100,000 toaster ovens recalled across Canada due to burn hazard

A potential “burn hazard” has prompted Health Canada to issue a recall of thousands of toasters sold nationwide.

On Sept. 25, Health Canada announced the recall of certain models of Oster Toasters.

The recall involves Oster French Door Toaster Countertop Ovens, which, unlike toaster ovens with pull-down doors, feature spring-loaded bilateral “French doors.” These doors are made of glass with metal handles. It has been discovered that the oven’s doors can “unexpectedly close,” posing a burn hazard to users.

“Immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Sunbeam Products Inc. to arrange to obtain a free repair kit,” reads the statement.

As of September 22, the company stated that it hasn’t received any reports of injuries in Canada. However, in the U.S., the company received 95 reports of the doors unexpectedly closing, resulting in burn injuries. The company also stated that it received two reports of second-degree burns. No hospitalizations or serious injuries were noted.

The products were sold in Canada between Jan. 2015 and July 2025. In total, 104,195 units were sold in Canada and about 1,290,000 in the U.S. The recall affects several types of toasters with model numbers TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDGDS, TSSTTVFDXLPP-033, and TSSTTVFDDAF-033. The model number can be found on the back of the oven and on the original packaging.

Although Oster isn’t offering refunds or replacements, consumers can contact the company to request free repair kits, which are expected to begin shipping in November. You can register for one by providing your information and oven model number on Oster’s recall website. You can also contact them through their support page.

“Please discontinue using the French Door Oven until you receive your repair kit,” reads the site. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”
