BC Cannabis Store made 1000 online sales in first hour

At 12:01 am this morning, the BC Cannabis Store launched its online platform.

Within the first hour, 1000 orders had been placed, according to Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Farnworth.

Minister Farnworth also stated that the site experienced steady activity since going live.

As of this morning, all capsules were sold out, as well as several oils, pre-rolls, and dried flower.

Dried flower prices range anywhere from about $6.99 to $13.99 per gram, which is “competitive with other provinces,” said Minister Farnworth.

During this morning’s press conference, a reporter asked if the price point on the higher end would still lead people to the black market.

Minister Farnworth said he was confident people would switch over to the regulated system, stating that “what we’ve also learned from other jurisdictions is that people are prepared to pay a premiuim for knowing that they have a product that they can trust, quality assurance of knowing where it was produced, and exactly what it is.”

Minister Farnworth also stated that prices may drop as more producers are licensed and supply increases.

“This is a business, this is a market and there will be market forces at work here.”
