Up in smoke: 11 places to celebrate legalization in Toronto

History will be made in Canada this week, as pot prohibition is finally coming to an end.

And of course, this is a great reason to celebrate, especially here in Toronto where there are plenty of cannabis-centric events taking place.

From public smoking events to educational discussions, legalization parties, networking opportunities and more, here is a list of some of the top legalization events taking place throughout the city.

Live Your Latitude: A Night of Candid Cannabis Conversation

What: On the eve of legalization, Latitude is taking an intimate approach to the cannabis conversation and is sharing the stories of six Canadian women and their cannabis use. Must be 19+, drinks and munchies will be provided.

Bud Drop

What: In celebration of legalization across the county, cannabis users are invited to ring in the special occasion at this New Year’s Eve-style countdown party at the Mod Club. Dubbed Bud Drop, partygoers can ring in this monumental moment in Canadian history at midnight as well as enjoy a live performance from Dwayne Gretzky.

Learning Hub Pop-Up

What: To celebrate the first day of national cannabis legalization, cannabis enthusiasts can check out a pop-up Learning Hub on Queen West. Here, visitors 19-and-up can receive a unique educational experience and a chance to speak with experts about cannabis 101, responsible consumption, how to buy legal cannabis, learn about product labelling that will be in market and find out how to safely cook with cannabis.

Legalization Day at Trinity Bellwoods

What: In honour of cannabis legalization day, the public is invited to come together for an epic legalization smoke session at Trinity Bellwoods. Currently, there are over 3,000 people interested in attending the event on Facebook, so arrive early to claim a spot and don’t forget to bring the good vibes.

Community Wake and Bake and End of Prohibition Party

What: The Friendly Stranger (TFS), the Queen West cult-favourite hemp shop, is hosting End of Prohibition — an all-day celebration of the momentous occasion of Canada becoming the first G7 country to legalize recreational cannabis. TFS will partner with local Queen West coffee haunt, Hot Black Coffee, to offer free programming, cannabis education, and art and culinary experiences.  The celebration will kick off with a community wake and bake, followed by music, promotions, activities and more.

Ellie Mae Studios x Girl gang Goodies Pop-up

What: Ellie Mae Studios is celebrating legalization by inviting Torontonians to roll by the shop to get a free pack of custom rolling papers and Toronto’s very own Girl Gang Goodies.

Cannabis Networking Event

What: If you’re interested in meeting and learning from investors and business owners in the cannabis industry, you’re going to want to check out Graceful Network’s networking event this Wednesday. Guests can learn from cannabis experts and speakers, who will provide curated networking opportunities to explore cannabis products and services of Toronto’s most innovative companies.

Canadian Legalization Party

What: The Cannabis Society and Fireside Cannabis are teaming up this Wednesday to host Canada’s Legalization Party at Toronto’s Love Child Social House. Over 600 dressed-to-impress Toronto professionals are expected at this legalization party, where cannabis newbies and enthusiasts will come together to eat, drink and listen to top Toronto DJs in celebration of this historic day. Premium cannabis brands like Fireside and INDIVA will be on hand to educate and inspire.

Up in Smoke Legalization Show

What: In honour of legalization, Indie88 is hosting an epic concert featuring Japandroids and The Dirty Nil with SURE this Wednesday at the Phoenix Concert Hall. Cannabis will be allowed in the venue for personal use only.

Toronto Cannabis Comedy Festival: Toronto Cannabis Legalized Party

What: If you’re in the mood to get your laugh on this Wednesday, you can join hundreds of stoners for a night of laughter, food and dancing. Come and enjoy a lineup of some of Canada’s best stoner comics, fresh off performing at Just for Laughs, The Comedy Network and JFL 42. Plus there will be some of the best food vendors in the city to satisfy all your munchie needs.

Legalize It: A tribute to Peter Tosh with House of David Gang
