Mother and three daughters dead after multi-vehicle crash in Brampton

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into the tragic crash that claimed the lives of a mother and her three young daughters on Thursday in Brampton.

According to the SIU, initial reports say that around noon on June 18, a Peel Regional Police officer was traveling westbound on Countryside Drive when he observed an Infiniti vehicle travelling eastbound.

The SIU says a short time later, in the intersection of Countryside Drive and Torbram Road, the Infiniti became involved in a collision with a van that had been traveling northbound on Torbram Road.

Inside the van were the mother and her children, ages one, four and six.

Investigators say the six-year-old girl was pronounced deceased at the scene. The mother and her four-year-old daughter were pronounced deceased at the Brampton Civic Hospital.

The one-year-old was also transported to the Brampton hospital, but was then taken to the Hospital for Sick Children, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Infiniti was seriously injured and taken to hospital for treatment, according to the SIU, adding that two other vehicles sustained damage in the crash.

“This is beyond heart breaking. There are no words that describe the pain and sorrow that Brampton is enduring with the needless death of a loving mother and 3 young children,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.

“I am infuriated that a reckless driving incident would rob this family of their future. Rest In Peace.”

Brown also said that the driver is a 20-year-old who “had a prohibited license for multiple driving offenses.”

“He had plates that didn’t match his car. He only has a broken leg but his victims have had their lives stolen,” said the Brampton mayor. “This is criminal negligence causing death. He belongs in jail.”

Police have yet to confirm the driver’s age or the license information.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the family with a goal of $30,000. By Friday morning, it was almost at $25,000.

Four investigators, three forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case through the SIU.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
