Justin Trudeau lands surprising new role after politics
Justin Trudeau is expected to announce his new film production company at TIFF in Toronto today, according to a report from the Canadian Press.
A decade spent as the Prime Minister of Canada doesn’t mean that it’s too late in life for Justin Trudeau to embark on a career pivot, it seems, as the former PM prepares to officially announce his new film production company, Hope & Hard Work.

Joining forces once again with former Chief of Staff Katie Telford, the company is described as “a multidisciplinary media and entertainment enterprise” that will produce “scripted and unscripted productions, audio and live experiences.”
“We believe stories do more than reflect the world – they shape how we see ourselves, how we understand one another, and what we imagine is possible. At a time when it can be easier to retreat into what we know, we need stories that take us beyond the boundaries of our own experience, strengthen our sense of what it means to be human, and remind us of what connects us,” a statement on the company’s website reads.
According to a release put out by the company, a series of productions are also underway, including adaptations of Perry Chafe’s Closer to the Sea and Uzma Jalaluddin’s Detective Aunty.
Also underway is an original series called Le Collège by North of North writers Jessie Gabe and Shebli Zarghami, an adaptation of Leesa Ronald’s novel Power Moves, and a dramatic series about the daily life of a Chief of Staff, currently being developed by Chloe Saintilan and Phoebe Saintilan-Stocks.
Trudeau and Telford are expected to officially launch Hope & Hard Work at TIFF on Friday, Sept. 11.
