Global coronavirus death toll tops 100,000

Since the coronavirus was identified in China this past December, COVID-19 has now claimed the lives of over 100,000 people globally.

The unfortunate landmark was reached on Friday afternoon, according to new worldwide metrics from the World Health Organization.

As of 4:15 pm on Friday, the global death toll from COVID-19-related deaths was 101,983.

As of this writing, Italy, USA, and Spain, hold the unenviable role of the highest COVID-19-related fatalities in the world at 18,849, 18,255, and 15,970, respectively.

Known cases around the globe are currently at 1,682,220.

World Health Organization

In Canada, 22,046 cases have been diagnosed wth 556 total deaths.

Almost half of the Canadian cases are in Quebec at 10,912, followed by 6,237 in Ontario, and 1,370 in British Columbia.
