The role

Oversee all finance and accounting functions of the company, including financial statement preparation, forecasting and analysis; policy creation and implementation; process and control improvements; budgetary management; and regulatory compliance. Strategic thinkers and effective leader.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Propose and implement efficiencies to create cost and time savings across the company.
  • Research technical accounting issues to ensure the company is compliant.
  • Assist departments with changes to plans and budgets and strategic decisions.
  • Manage and comply with municipal, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Work with the other department heads on price setting and margin analysis.
  • Oversee grant applications and filings.
  • Review AR Reporting produced by the team, analysing the reasons for the movements. Identify any potential write-offs and adjustments and consult with the Director of Sales about next steps.
  • Monitor cash flow on a daily basis and forecast cash flow.
  • Review all expense reports submitted to ensure they have the correct departmental approvals, backup and comply with the policy.
  • Release EFT file for monthly employee, freelancer and bill payments in line with company policy and cash flow (file prepared by the team).
  • Consult with department heads for any changes to payroll (twice monthly). Prepare the payroll file and issue payments on required dates.
  • Prepare monthly KPIs and reporting for presentation to the department heads.
  • Review month-end checklist, prepared by the team, to ensure the financial statements are complete and accurate.
  • Review financial statements for any write-offs and adjustments necessary.
  • Support the Senior Accountant in managing the review engagement and provide guidance.
  • Driving the financial planning of the company by analyzing its performance and risks.
  • Lead the budget and goal setting process.
  • Maintain constant awareness of the company’s financial position and acting to prevent problems.
  • Renew business license annually.
  • Increase awareness of the accounting department and its function.
  • Support training and professional development for Manager of Finance and Junior Accountant.

Qualifications / Experience

  • CPA designated, with 5+ years of experience in a similar role. (required)
  • Working knowledge of financial reporting software (Sage 50). (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Customer Relationship Management tools. (Salesforce is preferred)
  • Experience in media and/or tech industries. (a plus)
  • Experience with US and international transactions and operations. (nice to have)
