The Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) an independent subsidiary of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) announced on their website that they have began the process of hiring cannabis store employees.

The corporation’s objective is to recruit full-time and part-time employees who will be able to offer Quebeckers service 7 days a week from 10 am to 10 pm. The SQDC’s stores will be open for a total of 84 hours a week.

The number of employees will be adjusted in accordance to the needs of the developing network.

Stores will operate in three sections: The first section is reception, in which workers will validate the age of customers. No products will be visible from the reception area.

The second section will feature information and support. Cannabis products will be on display behind a counter and workers will help educate customers about the products, offer  information about each type and explain risks and warnings.

The third section will be storage, accessible only to employees.

Since Quebec’s cannabis laws restrict stores from being a certain distance from schools and daycares, Montreal’s neighbourhoods are having trouble finding the right location for their first cannabis store.

Store leases thus far have been confirmed for Trois-Rivières, Drummondville, Lévis et Québec City.

However, Quebeckers living anywhere in the province will be able to order marijuana online through the SQDC when cannabis becomes legal on October 17.

Prospective employee wages for sales clerks will begin at $14 per hour, and they will be eligible for health and other benefits. Employees must pass a test following their training in order to be hired.
