The list of Canada's top employers for 2021 has been released

Canada’s Top 100 Employers has just released its 21st annual list.

If you’re not already working at one of these companies, you’re going to want to start.

While every workplace in Canada has been affected by COVID-19, the country’s top employers have innovated to provide support for employees and communities throughout the pandemic.

This theme of compassion is what distinguished them amongst the competition, according to a press release.

“The very best employers have always been innovators,” said Richard Yerema, managing editor of Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp.  “They are better prepared to move quickly in response to a rapid challenge like the pandemic.”

Now in its 21st annual edition, Canada’s Top 100 Employers is an editorial competition that recognizes employers with exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies.

It’s released each year by publishing company Mediacorp.

Employers are graded on eight criteria and then compared to other similar organizations in their field to determine which is performing the best. The criterium includes:

  1. Physical Workplace
  2. Work Atmosphere & Social
  3. Health, Financial & Family Benefits
  4. Vacation & Time Off
  5. Employee Communications
  6. Performance Management
  7. Training & Skills Development
  8. Community Involvement

The top employers for 2021 assisted employees in setting up home offices, provided them with paid time off to volunteer in the community, and paid close attention to worker’s health, including increasing subsidies for wellness and mental health, the release said.

“It’s hard not to be impressed by what this year’s winners are doing to support their employees and the community,” said Anthony Meehan, Publisher at Mediacorp. “There’s an awareness that COVID-19 has made many of Canada’s social divisions and inequities much wider.”

“The good news is that best employers are stepping up to this challenge and making a difference, both within their organizations and in the wider communities where they operate.”
