‘Tis the season for hot chocolate, eggnog, and learning festive facts about Canada.
Our vast land has many different towns and cities, all with very different names. In fact, Canada has about 350,000 official place names, according to the Canadian Encyclopedia.
“These include names of populated places, water bodies (e.g. lakes) and geographical features (e.g. mountains),” states the Encyclopedia. “Canadian place names have a variety of origins, including Aboriginal languages, royalty, famous people and religion.”
Stats Canada has shared a list of some of the most festively named places in the country. Santa is sure to stop by these destinations this Christmas!
