North Vancouver’s Welcome Parlour has only been open for a few months, but this artisanal ice cream shop is no newbie when it comes to crafting sweet and dreamy ice cream.

Located at 277 East 8th Street in a heritage building called Hodson Block, Welcome Parlour is North Vancouver’s first authentic ice cream parlour, and its atmosphere oozes old school charm.

From the blown-up black and white photo of historical Lower Lonsdale on the wall, to the repurposed materials used in the space’s decor, Welcome Parlour has been crafted to be a place to connect with family, friends and the community alike.

This parlour is tucked next to neighbourhood favourite Andrew’s on 8th, making it a great place to head after a brunch for a treat. Using all natural ingredients and flavours, this spot has a daily rotating lineup of a handful of flavours at all times.

These flavours include drool-worthy small-batch varieties like Chocolate Oreo, Cracked Caramel, Rocky Road, and Lime Coconut for example. Welcome Parlour has teamed up with Cadeaux Bakery too, incorporating the Powell Street bakery’s goodies by combining them with creamy hand made ice cream.

A crowd favourite, Birthday Cake ice cream, uses Cadeaux’s sponge cake, and another top seller, Apple Pie ice cream, uses the bakery’s freshly-baked apple pie.

You can get these scoops in a housemade waffle cone, a cup, or mix and match different scoops in a pint to take home and enjoy later in no pants stretchy pants.

That’s right, you can pick choose flavours from the Lower Lonsdale parlour like you’d pick candy from the bulk section at Safeway.

This is basically the dream for those serious ice cream connoisseurs, or anyone that’s wanted more than two or three flavours at once.

Welcome Parlour also has a retail section with treats from Vancouver’s Wishing Treats and Thomas Haas.

Between this charming new spot and the new Earnest Ice Cream location set to open this summer in the area, we can safely say the North Shore has upped its ice cream game.

Welcome Parlour Ice Cream is open from Sunday to Thursday from noon to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 pm.
