Fans of Japanese clothing brand UNIQLO will have more places to shop in and around Metro Vancouver starting this fall.
UNIQLO, the Japanese-based casual apparel retailer, announced it is opening a new store at Coquitlam Centre. It will occupy a retail space over 12,000 sq. ft. on the shopping mall’s second level.
This store follows three store openings since fall 2017, when UNIQLO opened a 20,800 sq. ft. location at Metropolis at Metrotown. Then earlier this year, it opened a 12,800 sq. ft. store at Guildford Town Centre, and an 8,000 sq. ft. store at CF Richmond Centre.
In addition to the new Coquitlam store, UNIQLO will also be opening three more locations in the Greater Toronto Area in the fall. The stores are located at Vaughan Mills (20,000 sq. ft.), CF Markville (15,000 sq. ft.), and Square One Shopping Centre (15,000 sq. ft.).
“We’re happy to be bringing LifeWear, thoughtfully created to make everyday life better and more comfortable, to so many new people in Canada through the launch of four new UNIQLO stores,” said Yasuhiro Hayashi, Chief Operating Officer of UNIQLO Canada, in a release.
“After much demand from loyal customers, we are especially excited to be opening new stores in Ontario for the first time since our Canadian launch in fall 2016.”
UNIQLO’s largest store in Canada is still the 27,000 sq. ft., two-floor flagship location at CF Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto. It was the retailer’s first store in the country.
It remains to be seen whether the retailer is still interested in opening a flagship location in downtown Vancouver, which was initially intended to be their first location in Metro Vancouver.
In an interview with Daily Hive last year, UNIQLO CEO Tadashi Yanai said Montreal will be its next Canadian market following its expansion in Vancouver and Toronto.
Since opening its first store in Japan in 1984, UNIQLO has grown to become an international leader with over 2,000 stores worldwide.
