UNIQLO opening 2 new stores in Metro Vancouver in early-2018

Japanese clothing retailer giant UNIQLO will be expanding its presence in Metro Vancouver with two new stores opening in the first few months of 2018.

The region’s second store will open at Guildford Town Centre in Surrey at 10 am on Friday, March 9. Shortly after in the spring, the company will open its third location at CF Richmond Centre.

A precise opening date for the Richmond location will be announced at a later date.

However, both stores will be substantially smaller than the 20,800-sq-ft store that opened at Metropolis at Metrotown shopping centre in October 2017.

The Guildford Town Centre store will have a retail floor area of 12,800 sq. ft. while the CF Richmond Centre store will be about 8,000 sq. ft. Although these stores are smaller than the Metrotown store, they will still offer the essentials and signature items UNIQLO is known for, including the core collections for men, women, and kids.

“The launch of two additional UNIQLO stores in British Columbia is very exciting for us,” said Yasuhiro Hayashi, Chief Operating Officer of UNIQLO Canada. “We opened our first store in the Greater Vancouver Area last fall and we received great demand from customers for more stores. This newest expansion demonstrates our commitment to bring LifeWear to more Canadians on the West Coast.”

UNIQLO still plans on opening a flagship location in downtown Vancouver, but it has yet to finalize a location. The retailer’s flagship stores are approximately 30,000 sq. ft. or larger.

It currently has more than 1,900 stores across the world, with the largest store being its 89,000-sq-ft flagship on New York’s Fifth Avenue.

With the new Metro Vancouver store openings, UNIQLO will soon have five stores in the Canadian market. The first location in the country opened at CF Toronto Eaton Centre in 2016.
