21 photos inside Vancouver's first UNIQLO store
The anticipation behind the opening of Metro Vancouver’s first UNIQLO has the makings of becoming the largest store opening in terms of attendance in the history of Metropolis at Metrotown shopping centre.
The 20,800-sq-ft, two-level store in the mall’s Grand Court atrium is scheduled to opens its doors at 10 am on Friday, October 6.
Prior to the opening, there will be a traditional Japanese Taiko drummer performance, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and giveaways such as a special edition UNIQLO-themed Vancouver cloth tote bag for the first 500 people in line. As well, the first customers will have a chance for a trip to Tokyo.
Representatives with the Japanese-based clothing retailer told Daily Hive they expect the opening weekend turnout to be larger than the company’s initial Canadian launch in Toronto almost exactly one year ago.

UNIQLO is renowned for its high-quality basics and relative affordability, and this latest Canadian store carries many of the same men’s, women’s, and children’s products found at other stores around the world.

But the Metrotown location also carries lines specifically curated for Pacific Northwest sensibilities and tastes, and it is reflected in the company’s latest Canadian ad campaign – ‘Natural Union’ – ahead of the Metrotown opening.
This includes vast selections of innerwear made from HEATTECH fabric, which provides warmth without bothersome weight, and ultra light down jackets and vests. Additionally, there are raincoats, sweaters, and possibly one of the largest selections of flannel in any of its stores.

UNIQLO is also known for its pop art lines and collaborations with international fashion designers.
The Metrotown store carries collaborative collections between KAWS and Peanuts, boasting graphic designs that feature original iterations of Charlie Brown and Snoopy.
The company set aside some items from its recently launched collaboration with British designer J.W. Anderson for its Metrotown opening. Items from this collaboration are sold out elsewhere in the world.

UNIQLO plans to open other locations in Metrotown Vancouver over the coming years; a flagship store is slated for downtown Vancouver, but a location has not been announced.
The company was founded in 1984 and has 1,800 locations around the world. The Metrotown location is the third Canadian location after the Toronto stores at Eaton Centre and Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
UNIQLO’s opening comes on the heels of MUJI’s launch at Metrotown just a few weeks ago. Lines stretched outside the mall when the 7,700-sq-ft store opened.
