Popina Canteen
Popina Canteen, a brand new concept from four renowned Vancouver chefs, is set to open this spring on Granville Island. The all-star culinary team behind this gourmet counter-service restaurant is comprised of Angus An, Robert Belcham, Hamid Salimian, and Joël Watanabe.

Taking the place of recently-shuttered Mission in Kits, Their There is brought to us by the same folks as AnnaLena. This will be a bakery cafe and it’s opening on July 1, Canada Day.

Seorae Korean BBQ
Korean BBQ king Seorae is opening its very first North American location in the Metro Vancouver city this summer.

Francesco’s Ristorante
Hapa Izakaya Coal Harbour (Hanna McLean/Daily Hive)
Francesco’s Ristorante, formally Don Francesco’s Ristorante, quietly shuttered in 2017 to the dismay of patrons across the city. Francesco’s is officially gearing up to reopen at 909 Cordova Street, the current location of soon-to-be-closed Hapa Izakaya Coal Harbour.

The new Richmond spot will be soft launching during its first few weeks of service (aiming for the end of June). It will be open five days a week (Tuesday to Saturday) but eventually plans to be open seven days a week from 10 am to 11 pm.

Brewhall
Brewhall, the newest concept from Vancouver’s Tap & Barrel is set to open at the end of June.

Purebread – Mount Pleasant
The new space is located at 5th and Ontario Street, and it will be coming at us “sometime soon.” Purebread, an institution for baked goods and over the top stacks of treats in both Vancouver and Whistler, posted a construction photo on March 15 confirming they are in the process of creating a new bakery. They are hoping for a mid-august opening.

Small Victory – South Granville
Beloved Yaletown coffee and treat spot Small Victory has announced via Instagram that they are opening a second location this summer. The new spot will be in South Granville, an area that is definitely in need of some more grab-and-go food options, and will live at 3070 Granville Street to be exact.

Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken
The chain of fast food outlets originating at the Taipei Shi-Lin Night Market is known for its massive (bigger than your face) chicken cutlets served in paper sleeves. A 1,500 sq. ft. Vancouver location is slated to open at Central at Garden City in Richmond this August. Additional outposts in Downtown, Metrotown, and Coquitlam are planned to follow.

Forêt Noire

The 2,000 sq. ft. space, located at 236 West Broadway, is set to open in July tentatively, and if the renderings are to be believed, is going to be a big addition to the dessert scene in Mount Pleasant by bringing their traditional French pastries and sweets.
