50's Burgers: $6.99 all-day breakfast and epic old school burgers

Forget about Disneyland guys, this is the happiest place on Earth, and it’s located in Burnaby – at 7741 Edmonds Street to be exact.

50’s Burgers is a foodie’s paradise, and it’s open year-round. Formally known as Lost In The 50’s Drive-In before the brand got revamped a few years ago, this place serves a serious burger with no preservatives or fillers, and people have been loving them for a while.

You may have had the chance to devour their offerings when they briefly opened a second Vancouver restaurant at 181 Denman Street (formally Vera’s Burgers) in December 2016, but this location halted operations earlier this year – so we’re pleased to know the original is still open for business to fulfill our retro-grub cravings.

50’s menu is a stoner’s food lover’s dream. Hamburgers here are made with hand-pressed sirloin, buns are baked in-house, and fries and onion rings are hand-cut.

This spot aims to take patrons back to a time when fast food chains didn’t exist, one when independently-owned joints were the only way to grab a made-to-order burger and fries. They serve quality patties on whole wheat and white buns along with veggie burgers, hotdogs, sandwiches, milkshakes, and a whole hell of a lot more.

The burger menu includes drool-worthy creations like the Alberta Classic, London Secret, L.A. King, Texas BBQ, and Hawaiian Luau burgers. All piled incredibly high with toppings and dripping with sauces, these burgers range anywhere from $7 to $10.

Diners can add additional toppings on their patty like hot dogs, eggs, and avocado too. The menu eludes to “mysterious and incredible off menu items” and further warns “don’t say ‘Landslide’ unless you mean it” – you’ve got our attention, and we’ll gladly take that challenge.

For sandwiches, 50’s offers chicken, beef sausage, pulled pork, fish, and lamb served on fresh kaiser buns. With creations like Athenian Glory Greek sandwich, Alaska Catch Cod fish and chips, and the 8-inch beef hotdog titled the Bulldog – there’s really no feasible way you could walk away from this place without food in your hands.

We can’t forget to mention the $6.99 all-day breakfast – eggs, bacon, cheese and hash browns – and the kid’s meals available for our little homies, too (up to 10 years).

When it comes to beverages, 50’s offers homemade lemonade and old school pop in glass bottles. And the ice cream and milkshakes – what’s your flavour? Banana Fudge? Licorice-Tiger? Black-Raspberry Cheesecake?

They’ve got it all, and you can order it in a cup, a cone, a float, or as a milkshake.

Call ahead of time and have your food ready in 15 minutes for take-out, or grab your grub via Foodora if you’re outside of Burnaby/don’t want to put on real pants (AKA all of us).

So that pretty much settles it, our Friday nights will now consist of Netflix and 50’s Burgers. Sounds ideal, right?

50’s Burgers is open Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 9 pm (last call 8:30 pm), and Sunday from noon to 5 pm (last call 4:30 pm).
