The leaves are changing colour here in Vancouver, which can only mean one thing: fall is officially upon us.
With it, comes a smorgasbord of seasonal treats as bakeries, cafes, and ice cream parlours concoct all manner of goodies using fall flavours like pumpkin and spiced apple. It’s goodies like these that remind us why we love fall so much.
So to help you get a taste of the season, here are 17 of the most drool-worthy must-try fall treats in Vancouver.

For the fall season, past favourites like the pyramidal-shaped meringue topped Spiced Pumpkin Tart and the Apple Pie Croissant that is filled with cinnamon-spiced apples, almond frangipane and almond streusel. New additions to the fall menu includes the Plum Rosemary Bostock, a brioche with a lovely house-made rosemary plum compote and also the Chocolate Financier with Chilli which is a small almond tea cake infused with Valrhona Tainori chocolate and chilis. If you are craving something savoury, try Chef Betty Hungâs newest creation the Butternut Squash Pesto Tarte. Delicate layers of pastry and butternut squash puree is garnished with walnut sage, pecorino cheese, toasted walnuts and white balsamic pear salad. The fall menu is available until November 26.

It’s hard not to drool when cutting into Butterâs pumpkin pie with its perfectly crimped pastry crust. Also back for the fall are their cute little pumpkin spiced cupcakes with caramel drizzle and a candy pumpkin as decoration.Â

This popular Sicilian dessert spot is welcoming fall with their new seasonal pumpkin cannoli. The crispy cannoli shell is filled fresh to order with a housemade sweet pumpkin ricotta. The fall cannoli is dusted with powdered sugar and ground cinnamon. The ends are dipped in pumpkin seeds as a final garnish for the perfect fall treat. The new pumpkin cannoli and all of their other classic flavours like pistachio and the Sicilian are also available at their brick and mortar bakery of over 30 years, Italia Bakery.

Until October 9, Chez Christopheâs limited edition Thanksgiving Pumpkin Tart will be available. With a base of roasted pumpkin puree with a layer of maple bavaroise cream is then garnished with a hazelnut sponge and cinnamon spiced and Zephyr caramel white chocolate cream. Chef Christopheâs Pumpkin Tart is a sophisticated take on the classic pumpkin pie and will definitely become your new favourite autumn inspired treat.
Earnest has stocked their freezers with their fall ice cream flavours. Pumpkin Pie will be one of the flavours returning and is made from organic local pumpkin and an irresistible mix of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove and allspice. There is also a Vegan Chai which is bursting with flavour from being steeped with cinnamon, cardamon, tea leaves, ginger and cloves before being churned into a creamy ice cream. Rounding out Earnestâs fall flavours will be Apple Pie, Cranberry Walnut and Milk Chocolate.
If you are looking for a gluten-free pumpkin pie, East Village Bakery has just announced that their house-made pumpkin pies will be returning, but only for the Thanksgiving long weekend. If you are hoping to bring home one of their creamy pumpkin pies garnished with candied pumpkin seeds for texture, be sure to phone ahead as they often sell out in stores.
The cinnamon buns at Grounds for Coffee are embracing fall and are going pumpkin for the Thanksgiving long weekend. The nutty spice of the ground cinnamon paired with sweet pumpkin puree in these pumpkin buns beats a pumpkin spice latte any day. Sisters Andy and Stephanie French have just announced their Thanksgiving holiday menu and on it is their Heirloom Pumpkin & Spice, a rich thick layer of pumpkin custard infused with cloves, ginger, nutmeg and ceylon cinnamon. If you are more of a fruit pie person, order their East Van Purple Plum & Black Frier Plum pie which is finished with a lovely almond and sugar butter streusel. With the arrival of fall, Thomas Haas has embraced autumn with the introduction of 6 pumpkin inspired treats. Their classic pumpkin pie is available with just cinnamon Chantilly cream, or also with caramelized spiced apples all in a butter tart. If you are wanting something other than a pumpkin pie, pick up Thomas Haasâ newest creation, a pumpkin cake.
