Ontario's law enforcement watchdog investigating death of man tasered by Peel police

The province’s police watchdog says it’s investigating the death of a man who was tasered by police in Mississauga early Tuesday morning.
Peel Regional Police say they were called to the area of Runningbrook Drive, near Tomken Road, just after 3:15 am.
After officers arrived at the scene, a male adult was tasered by police and taken to a local hospital. The man was pronounced dead shortly after at 4:19 am, according to police.
The name and age of the deceased have not been released at this time.

As a result, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to probe the circumstances surrounding the interaction.

The SIU has the statutory mandate to conduct independent investigations into whenever police are involved in an incident resulting in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
