It’s a bit of a quiet week in Vancouver, with Father’s Day rounding it out at the end (so make sure you remember to pick him up his favourite bottle or treat before Sunday). With summer right around the corner, we’ve still got lots of fantastic eating and drinking to do in and around the city.

Here are six Vancouver food events to check out this week, June 12 to 18, 2017.

1. Vancouver Foodster’s Chicken Wing Challenge

Restaurants from all over the city are showing off their Chicken Wing creations in this exciting challenge, including many who created a dish just for the event. Each restaurant will be featuring their Chicken Wings creation on their menu from June 8 through 29, and your job (such work!) is to taste as many as you can and cast your vote for the people’s choice.

When: Now through June 29, 2017
Where: Participating restaurants

2. Canada 150 Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

For their limited time Canada 150 Afternoon Tea, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver has designed a menu that essentially allows you to travel Canada coast to coast in every single bite, from a creamy lobster roll inspired by Atlantic Canada to a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich, and even a chocolate-dipped Nanaimo Bar for dessert. It’s refined, but not fussy, and probably the most filling tea time you’ll ever experience.

When: Now through September 3; daily sittings at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm
Where: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
Cost: $59 (Children 12 and under are $29.50); for reservations call 604-662-1900 or email [email protected]

3. Tasting Plates: Riley Park

Spend an evening eating your way around Vancouver’s Riley Park neighborhood at a selection of restaurants, cafes and other establishments centered in and around Main Street between 21st – 28th avenues. Each stop on the roster will have a tasting portion of food or drink for participants, as you eat and learn your way around the ‘hood. The starting point is the Main Street Honey Shoppe.

When: Wednesday June 14 from 6 to 10 pm
Where: Start at the Main Street Honey Shoppe – 4125 Main Street, Vancouver
Tickets: $35 to 60; available online

4. Night at the Aquarium

Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre will be hosting a birthday bash like no other as it celebrates the nation’s 150th year at its annual signature gala, Night at the Aquarium. For a posh evening of wine, food, and oceans love, sip and mingle amongst the galleries of the aquarium. Kick things off with a champagne reception with cocktails and small bites, followed by a four-course sit-down dinner by star chefs like  Ocean Wise® Executive Chef Ned Bell, Araxi Restaurant’s James Walt, Blue Water Cafe’s Frank Pabst, and The Fish Counter’s Rob Clark. The evening also features great wines from Kim Crawford, Sage Hills, and Meiomi,  brews from Red Truck Beer Co., and Ocean Wise® caesars from Walter Caesar. Tickets for this epic annual fundraiser are no longer available for purchase online, however if you would like to attend, contact the Aquarium to check availability. 19+ and cocktail attire.
