10 Vancouver food events to check out this week, July 3 to 9

This week kicks off with a holiday Monday, and then we’re right back into our delicious summer programming of food, drink, and fun.

Here are 10 Vancouver food events taking place in (or not too far from!) the city this week, July 3 to 9, 2017.

1. YVR Food Fest: The Big Brunch

This event is essentially a gigantic outdoor brunch that feature every conceivable type of delicious brunch fare from some of the Vancouver’s best restaurants and cafés. Patrons at this brunch event can expect a Caesar competition, a breakfast sandwich cook-off, and a cold-brew kegger featuring the city’s best coffee roasters.

When: Monday, July 3 from 11 am to 3 pm

2. Canada 150 Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

Zeroing in on July 1, and Canada’s big 150th birthday, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s current afternoon tea is Canadian-themed, and features cool vintage Canadian travel decor, custom tea blends, a tiered “tower” of savoury nibbles inspired by different regions in our nation, and a delicious spread of Canadian desserts.

When: Now through September 3; daily sittings at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm

3. H2 Rotisserie & Bar – Long Table Dinner with Sandhill Wines

Relax under the evening sky as you enjoy an al fresco five-course farm-to-table menu perfectly paired with BC wine from Sandhill Wines. H2 Rotisserie & Bar is proud to kick-off this year’s Long Table Dinner Series with culinary creations crafted by Executive Sous Chef Mike Reid and his talented team. Each delicious dish is made using fresh, locally-sourced and sustainably grown ingredients, and paired with the region’s best wine, beer or spirits.

When: Wednesday, July 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm

4. SIDECUT’s Summer BeerBQ

Whistler’s favourite BBQ is back!  This summer, SIDECUT at the Four Seasons Whistler will be partnering with different BC craft breweries every week, weaving beer into classic recipes and offering guests interesting pours and a wide selection of barbequed proteins, bright salads and satisfying sides, plus live entertainment. At this price it is more than worth the drive.

When: Thursdays through August 31
Where: SIDECUT – 4591 Blackcomb Way, Whistler
Cost: $34 for adults, $17 for kids (5-12) and $10 for kids under 5

5. Fridays on Front

Kicking off on July 7, and running every Friday from 5 to 8 pm through August 25, the 600-block of Front Street will turn into a family-friendly market and hang-out zone, complete with artisan vendors from the New West Farmers Market and New West Craft, live music from the New Westminster Arts Council, and food trucks (which you may also catch at the Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest this July).

When: Every Friday from July 7 through August 25, 2017
Where: 600-block of Front Street in New Westminster
Cost: Admission is free

6. Black Bamboo Pop-Up Cocktail Bar

The Black Bamboo Pop-Up Cocktail Bar at 1219 Granville Street is officially open from now until September 30, running every Friday and Saturday from 8 pm to 11 pm. You can make reservations up to two weeks in advance for this intimate, tropical-themed room which comes complete with live music, entertainment, champagne, and fresh cold-pressed juice cocktails. Patrons can expect something different on any given night, including rotating music themes like funk, hip hop, disco, and 90s jams.

7. Farmhouse Fest 2017

Back for its third year at UBC Farm, Farmhouse Fest 2017 is going down on July 8 from 11 am to 6 pm. Your ticket to this event gets you entry, a tasting glass, and five drink tokens (4oz per drink), if you purchase an early access ticket you’ll receive ten tokens. For food, festivalgoers will have their choice of grub served hot from stellar food trucks including TacofinoMelt CityFat DuckLe Tigre, and Via Tevere Pizzeria.

When: Saturday, July 8 from 11 am to 6 pm

8. Squamish Beer Festival

Festivalgoers can expect 50 breweries, 200 + craft beers, food trucks, and music at this annual half-day event in Sea to Sky country. Of course, when you get 1,500 craft beer lovers together for a celebration you’re going to need some food in addition to the ciders and beers, so there’s going to be some food trucks on site – although they haven’t been announced just yet.

9. Sunday Seafood Boil Series at Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar is brining back their annual Sunday Seafood Boil Series returns for a third consecutive year. Limited to just 24 seats at each event, enjoy best fresh-caught selections of crawfish, jumbo prawns, clams, mussels and Dungeness crab, served in a traditional East Coast-style seafood boil piled high on butcher’s paper.

When: Every Sunday from now through September 3 at 6 pm

10. Sunday Seafood Dining Series at YEW seafood + bar

The latest family-style feast for YEW’s Sunday Seafood Dining Series includes house Summer Sangria and Lobster and Dungeness Crab. Enjoy a glass of CedarCreek’s Chardonnay while you crack into this unforgettable meal.
