A New Westminster Police (NWPD) investigation that began last year has resulted in one man being charged with possession of child pornography, police announced on Wednesday.

In June of 2017, the NWPD Major Crime Unit investigated Shane Tucker, a New Westminster resident, relating to the possession and accessing of child sexual abuse images.

As part of the investigation, detectives obtained a judicial authorization and executed a search warrant.

Following the search, Mr. Tucker was arrested and charged with a number of offences, including accessing child pornography, and possessing child pornography.

Police said that Tucker has since been released but must adhere to and abide by a number of conditions, which include:

  • Not possessing any device capable of storing data as defined in the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Avoiding any public park, public swimming area, or community centre where persons under the age of 16 years are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a daycare centre, school ground, playground; except with the written permission of his bail supervisor
  • No contact or communication directly or indirectly with, nor be alone in the presence of, any person known – or who appears – to be under the age of 16 years
  • Not engaging in activities, volunteer work or employment that could bring him in contact with persons under the age of 16 years, without the written permission of the bail supervisor.
