Man charged following last week's sexual assaults in Vancouver

A man has been charged following a series of sexual assaults in East Vancouver last week.

VPD believe 19-year-old Richmond resident Bilali Miyonkuru is responsible for three separate incidents that took place on April 26.

The first incident occurred at 12:30 am when a 22-year-old woman was walking in the area of Monmouth Avenue and Joyce Street. A man approached her from behind and asked her not to move, but she fled the scene and called police.

Then at about‎ 1 am, a 34-year-old woman was entering an apartment building near Joyce Street and Vanness Avenue when a man grabbed her from behind. She screamed and the man ran off.

Later, at around 2 am, a man grabbed a 21-year-old woman from behind on East 46th Avenue near Doman Street, pulled her into the bushes outside an unoccupied house, and sexually assaulted her.

Following a public appeal and the work of police, Miyonkuru has been arrested and charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm and robbery.

He remains in custody.

“The safety and security of everyone in our community is our top priority,” said Staff Sgt. Randy Fincham. “Our investigators will continue to work tirelessly to hold individuals accountable for the victimization of others.”
