A man has been arrested after assaulting an elderly man in downtown Vancouver on Wednesday morning.

In a release, Vancouver Police said the incident happened just after 11 am, outside the Costco on Expo Boulevard.

“It appears a man in his 80s struck his head on the ground after allegedly being pushed,” said VPD Const. Jason Doucette.

The suspect fled on foot, while others performed first aid on the victim until he was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

The suspect, a 57-year-old East Vancouver resident, was arrested at his home about two hours later.

As the investigation is still in its”very early” stages, Doucette said there is no further information to share with the public at this time.

Anyone who may witnessed the assault themselves has not yet spoken with police, is asked to contact investigators at 604-717-2541.
