We’ve got them in the park, on the waterfront, and at a drive-in. And now Vancouver is getting a whole new free outdoor movie series as šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (formerly Vancouver Art Gallery’s North Plaza) is set to play host to Summer Movie Nights on the Square.
Each Wednesday evening from July 4 to August 29, Fresh Air Cinema’s large, four-storey inflatable screen will pop up, creating the perfect urban environment to take in a flick surrounded by the concrete jungle – just be sure to bring your lawn chairs and/or blankets.
After being closed for almost a year, the newly redesigned Square opened last June, removing the water fountain and levelling the surface into a 45,176-square-foot, event-friendly plaza with capacity for 1,500 people.
In partnership with the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA), and as the exclusive media partner of the new series, Daily Hive readers have the chance to pick the first movie to be screened this summer!
With the theme of “Cities” for the inaugural series, here’s the full lineup. We’ll announce the readers’ choice film later this month.
When: Every Wednesday from July 4 to August 29
Time: Activities begin at 5 pm, movie begins at sunset (check sunset times as that will be your best indication of when movies will start)
