Celebrate Canada Day with an epic sunrise hike on Mount Seymour

Jun 30 2017, 1:45 am

Last year, 800 people hiked up Mt. Seymour in the early morning hours of July 1.

Their epic hike was captured in viral photos and videos, as the group sang O Canada during the beautiful Canada Day sunrise on top of the mountain.

The team behind last year’s hike, Chasing Sunrise, are back at it again this year, with nine hikes planned from coast to coast.

“Last year, hundreds of us met at the top of a mountain at 5 am to show Canada what we’re all about,” states the event page. “From first light in St. John’s to the last sunrise in this country in Victoria, we’re doing Canada Day like it’s never been done before.”

As with most Chasing Sunrise hikes, the group is summiting Seymour before the rest of the city rolls out of bed.

Everyone is welcome to join the hike, but keep in mind it is an intermediate level, with 430 meter elevation gain over 4.5 km. At the top, expect smiles, and everything Canadian. Be sure to bring a flashlight and read up on the hike prior to departure.
