Burnaby senior suffering 'life altering' injuries after assault in Central Park

An assault that took place in Burnaby’s Central Park has left an elderly male with “life-altering” injuries.

According to Burnaby RCMP, the incident took place on July 15 just after 9 pm. Police received a report that an elderly male had been assaulted on a path near 5889 Patterson Avenue in Central Park.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were initially thought to be minor. Police say the injuries are now much more serious and could be life altering for the elderly man.

“This incident has had a devastating effect on the victim and his family,” said Corporal Michael Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP, in a releaseIf you were in the area around 5889 Patterson Avenue, the North-East corner of Central Park on Sunday night and saw anything suspicious we want to hear from you.

Witnesses say a young male was seen in the area during the time the assault took place. Police say the male is a person of interest and is described as non-white, slim build, roughly 5’9″ tall.

The male is described to be between 14 to 18 years old. He was wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, white shoes and possibly a red cap. He was last seen running towards Patterson SkyTrain Station.
