Instagram continues to be the ultimate social media outlet for visual story telling. You might be surprised to learn that these eight local restaurants serve as the backdrop in many Instagram pictures. These restaurants not only boast delicious menus, but their iconic decor features also serve as background for plenty of perfect Instagram pictures.

Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar

“Shoe-Fies” may just become the new trend this summer because it is hard to resist taking a picture of your shoes when standing out on the patio at Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar. The stunning white and navy blue mosaic tiles in the patio area attracts many Instagrammers throughout the spring and summer months. Address: 845 Burrard Street, Vancouver Instagram: @blvdyvr

La Casa Gelato

When driving down Venables street, it is nearly impossible to miss the bright pink exterior of La Casa Gelato. Instagrammers often visit the gelateria for their 238+ gelato flavours, but also to use the pink walls as a fun backdrop for pictures! During a nice sunny day, the shop will be packed with guests eager to get their ice cream, so they can head outdoors to take a few cute pictures against the pink walls. Address: 1033 Venables Street, Vancouver Instagram: @lacasagelato

Olive and Ruby Cafe

Still under a year old, Olive and Ruby has brought the ultimate urban jungle to Kitsilano. If you have been dying to figure out where to find the wall covered in white planters is, you will find it at this new-ish juice and health bar. And if you head into the bathroom, you will spot the “sexy” light box that dominated Instagram when Olive and Ruby first opened their doors. It’s a carryover from when their biz was called Sexy Juice and they didn’t have a storefront, by the way. Address: 2839 West Broadway, Vancouver Instagram: @oliveandrubycafe

Anh and Chi

The highly-praised Vietnamese restaurant Anh and Chi is easily one of the most photogenic restaurants in Vancouver. Their beautifully-plated food competes for their diners’ attention as their eyes are fixated on the restaurant’s interior. You will often find your favourite Instagrammer posing in front of the graphic French Colonial tiles that line the walls, or the metal chopsticks mural behind the bar. The bathroom has been done in a beautiful banana leaf wall paper and brass fixtures, making bathroom selfies justifiable. Address: 3388 Main Street, Vancouver Instagram: @AnhandChi

L’Abattoir

Tucked away in historic Gastown, L’Abattoir attracts visitors with their French-inspired menu and unique architecture. Their glass dining room is a favourite among Instagrammers, but comes in second to the red painted brick alleyway that divides L’Abattoir’s dining room from their kitchen. The alleyway is great for pictures year-round and is not limited to L’Abattoir patrons. Address: 217 Carrall Street, Vancouver Instagram: @labattoir_van

Belgard Kitchen

On the edge of Railtown resides Belgard Kitchen, a delicious restaurant that shares its large space with Vancouver Urban Winery. Separating the two are gorgeous oak barrels stacked four rows high. The beautiful wood barrels may just trick your Instagram followers into thinking you are in wine country and not a stone’s throw away from Gastown. Address: 55 Dunlevy Avenue, Vancouver Instagram: @belgardkitchen

La Pentola

Last summer, Vancouver saw an addition of several new urban art pieces which resulted in Instagram being inundated with mural pictures. La Pentola joined in on the fun and had “it’s love baby” lettered onto one of their exterior white brick walls. The simplicity of the typography makes for a chic Instagram picture. Address: 350 Davie Street, Vancouver Instagram: @lapentola

The Last Crumb Bakery and Cafe

If you are able to resist moving away from The Last Crumb Bakery’s display of decadent pies and scrumptious sandwiches, you will find on their second floor ornate tea cups and saucers mounted to the wall. It is a cute art installation and makes one feel like they’re at the Mad Hatter’s tea party from Alice in Wonderland. If you’re a Potter head, you will also appreciate the “cupboard under the staircase,” which is reminiscent of Harry’s first bedroom.
