It’s Breakfast Week! We’re serving up a heaping plateful of delicious stories about the most important meal of the day–and where to get it in Vancouver.

Even though Vancouver has a plethora of fantastic brekkie spots, true breakfast connoisseurs wont be contained within city limits, and they’ll happily venture outside of YVR in order to try the best and biggest meals available first thing in the morning.

If you’re in search of a killer brunch outside of the City of Vancouver, look no further than North Vancouver, where breakfast is top-notch and selection is wide.

It’s clear that the North Shore has a lot to offer breakfast lovers, so here are nine must-try breakfast spots in North Vancouver.

1. All Day Cafe

Based on the name of this spot, it’s not surprising they serve breakfast all day. Known for their melt-in-your-melt croissant sandwiches and benedicts – yes, croissant benedicts – All Day Cafe also offers fresh baked goods you can enjoy on their heated and covered sundeck overlooking the Vancouver Harbour. And to boot, when you purchase one of the six varieties of self-serve coffee from All Day, you get all refills free. For Vancouverites this cafe is a quick 15-minute Seabus ride away; we think it’s worth the trek.

Address: 123 -147 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver

2. Bluhouse Market & Cafe

This charming market and cafe is a hippy paradise. Known for its vibrant blue exterior and homemade crêpes, Bluhouse has room for about 20 people to sit along with a small retail store at the back of the space. Choose from nine varieties of crêpes made with organic buckwheat flour (we recommend The Cove), a selection of healthy smoothies, salads, bowls, and the soup of the day.

Address: 4342 Gallant Avenue, North Vancouver

3. BLVD Bistro

You know when a brekkie spot has a note on the front page of their menu urging patrons to relax but kindly not hang around because of high table demand, it’s got to be good. BLVD has a menu full of hearty dishes like the Philly Cheese Steak Hash, the BLVD Breakfast Burrito, and a French Toast Flight (served with ever-changing artisan spreads). All of the bennys here are served with BLVD’s signature savoury potato bread pudding, and with tons of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options along with as Build Your Own breakfast section (think home fries with hickory smoked sea salt, pork apple bangers, and organic baguette) – it’s no wonder this spot always has lines out the door.

5. Daisy Sandwiches & Such

A favourite breakfast hangout on the North Shore, Daisy’s serves breakfast Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, and Saturday from 8am to 2 pm. All the classics are served with hash browns and toast, and you can even ask your server for a little pot of baked beans to accompany your meal. For those with a sweet tooth there’s the usual suspects of pancakes, and French toast available with pure maple syrup. If you’re feeling something lighter, Daisy offers Montreal-style bagels and muffins.

Honey Doughnuts & Goodies offers eggs, bacon, and homemade potato bread along with French toast, oatmeal, and eggs benedicts (only on weekends). But of course, if you head here for your first meal of the day, you pretty much have to try on of their big delicious doughnuts made from scratch on location. No one said you couldn’t have doughnuts for breakfast either, right?

This is the place to be if you’re into farmhouse-style baking made fresh every morning (aren’t we all?). The products from The Bakehouse products are free of preservatives and artificial additives, so you can eat your Posh Smoked Salmon Brunch, Rosti Breaky, or French Toast and know it’s straight outta the oven and good for you. With quirky menu names like Dog’s Breakfast, and Health Nut, what’s not to love? This spot offers their breakfast and brunch menus all day on the weekends (on weekdays only breakfast is offered between 8 and 11 am).

8. Tommy’s Cafe

Tommy’s Cafe has a massive menu full of traditional breakfasts and house specials like the Bohunky, a combo of eggs, perogies, sautéed onions, and Polish BBQ smokies and the Mountain Man Breaky, which comes with a whopping six-egg omelette with everything in it, waffles, perogies, beans, and toast. This cafe has a selection of bennys, ‘wiches, and tortilla dishes as well, along with a beyond sweet Ultimo French Toast dish served with warm apple and raisin compote, cream cheese, and syrup. Head here when you’re really hungry and you’ll be set – we’re thinking post-hike or ski perhaps.

The Truffle House & Café offers an extensive brunch menu which includes everything from frittatas, veggie quiches, omelettes, bennys, and sweet and savoury crêpes. Located in the heart of Dundarave Village, this spot integrates truffles into its dishes as much as it can, using shaved black truffle on the Truffle Mushroom Benny and Truffle Omelette, and truffle oil as a base for many of its specialty dishes.
