A new spot for sweets treats is coming to Vancouver’s Commercial Drive.
The Bench Bakehouse will be opening in late 2018 in Il Mercato, at 100-1641 Commercial Drive.
Specializing in naturally leavened artisan bread and French-style pastries, this new spot uses traditional French methods and ingredients – aka bread made with flour, water, and salt – in traditional and savoury sourdough varieties, 100% butter croissants, morning buns, seasonal fruit tarts, and a selection of sandwiches on house-made bread.
The open concept bakery will offer patrons espresso beverages and a small number of seats to enjoy its offerings.

“We only use fresh, high-quality ingredients, without any of the additives so commonly found in commercial baked goods. Everything is made onsite from scratch, using organic and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible,” said Tracy Steele, Chef-Owner. “The sense of community in this neighbourhood is so amazing and we want The Bench Bakehouse to be a place with great baked goods where everyone feels at home.”
