There's a new Asian-themed ice cream parlour opening on Toronto's east side this spring

The signs are up! Wong’s Ice Cream is opening soon on Gerrard just east of Broadview.

The incoming source for Asian-themed ice cream is the newest project from Ed Wong, former co-founder of Henry Brown’s in Hamilton. He recently parted ways with Hamilton Farmer’s Market fixture telling Daily Hive, “commuting to Hamilton was killing me.”

“I’m looking forward to walking and biking to work,” adds the Toronto east sider.

Expected to open in mid-April, the new shop will be outfitted with ice cream bar benches and will become home to Wong’s tried-and-true flavours like Hong Hong Milk Tea and Vietnamese Coffee which are already popular in The Hammer.

While Wong doesn’t want to reveal too much about the menu just yet, his ice creams are made with natural ingredients and include custard-styles, Philadelphia-styles (sans eggs), and some made with nut milk and/or coconut bases.

Flavour-wise, expect ice creams incorporating ingredients like Thai coconut sticky rice, wasabi, condensed milk, honey, and salted duck egg.

Vegan and gluten-free flavours will be on rotation too.

In addition to ice cream, Wong’s will be serving pour-over coffees as well as stock select pantry items such as snacks, candies, chocolates, baking ingredients (dairy and eggs), and various other small-batch artisanal goodies.
