Queen Station closing early all week due to fare gate construction

Queen Station will be closing early all week, before a full closure this upcoming weekend.

The station is undergoing construction for the installation of the TTC’s new modern fare gates with PRESTO starting October 17. Weekday closures will commence at 11 pm each night, and is expected to continue until the end of November.

According to the TTC, the new gates, which improve customer flow and provide an unobstructed path into and out of stations, are a key piece of the TTC’s overall modernization plan. They are already in place at 45 stations and 77 entrances.

Because Queen Station is one of the TTC’s busiest, the TTC says that closing early and for the weekend is necessary to complete the necessary work that cannot be done when the station is open.

During these closures, subway trains will pass through the station without stopping.

Queen Station will close as follows:

11 pm nightly: October 17 to 19 AND October 23 to the end of November
– Weekend closure: Friday, October 20 at 11 pm until 6 am Monday, October 23.

When the fare gate installation is complete next spring, every subway station and every entrance will have new gates and accept PRESTO.
