Following Environment Canada issuing a heat warning for Monday, the agency says conditions are now favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms.
Environment Canada says scattered thunderstorms will affect the region today, in addition to strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.
However, the severe weather threat will end by this evening.
The agency is advising the public that fast-moving water across roads can sweep vehicles away and large hail can damage property and cause injury.
Additionally, strong winds can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches of trees and overturn large vehicles.
“Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” reads the statement from Environment Canada.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
