The first 'heat event of the season' is going to hit Toronto tomorrow

May 28 2018, 5:11 am

Earlier today, Environment Canada issued an air quality statement for Toronto due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality.

And now, the “first heat event of the season is setting up for Monday and Monday night for portions of Southwestern Ontario.”

It’s currently 21.4°C in the City as of 6pm, but by tomorrow temperatures are expected to reach a high of 32°C with a humidex value of 37°C. According to Environment Canada, these conditions pose a health risk for those who are not used to the heat:

Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.

You are advised to 1) drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty; and 2) keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending a few hours each day in a cool place.

If you’ve been waiting for summer to hit Toronto, your wish is about to become very true.
